South Face of Mount Catherine
March 8, 2009 | By robFeature Tags : Mount Catherine
After a long night at the Backcountry Ball at Alpental and a pit stop at the Family Pancake House for breakfast, Trevor and I geared up and made the trek out to Mount Catherine. Breaking trail wasn't too painful with the low density snow, and at the top we ran into a couple groups who had come up a different route.
Conditions were looking great, and we decided for a ski down the South side and stumbled into some great terrain. The top was a little iffy, we some sloughs coming off the sun crust from earlier in the week, but lower down stability was solid.
We skinned on the cross country trail, and headed back up to the top of Catherine for a ski down the Northern side, and then made our way back to Hyak via Union Station.
