Muir Snowfield Powder Day
November 22, 2008 | By robFeature Tags : Muir Snowfield, Mount Rainier
With recent new snow at higher elevations, we set the alarm clocks extra early and arrived at Paradise parking lot shortly after 7am, apparently not seeing that the road was still closed. We were excited to see snow in the parking lot, and were able to skin from the beginning. There was barely six inches on the ground, but it was enough coverage that we were able to make it up to Muir Snowfield only carrying our skis once.
Tim decided to catch some sun around Moon Rocks, and I went up to Camp Muir and skied back down to Tim. The snow was variable, but overall pretty darn good considering my expectations. On our way down we passed a steady stream of people, and figured there must have been at least 50 people coming up for their November turns.
Overall a good day, with nice turns, sun and not a lot of wind. It is a far drive for late November, but you have to work with the hand mother nature deals you.
