Fun and Sun in The Slot

I put a post out on turns-all-year.com for a partner and Stefan shot me a PM saying he was interested in skiing the Slot. We arrived at the parking lot and to our amazement, no one else had yet started skinning up Mount Snoqualmie. We laid in a skin track, able to somewhat follow an earlier track. There was shin deep snow, with low density, the sun was out and there was not a single other person in sight - not something you expect on Saturday ski of The Slot.

At the entrance, we practised a belayed ski cut and the slope seemed bomber. Just some small sloughs of the top 14". All good for some great turns the rest of the way down into Thunder Creek basin. We revelled at our line from the bottom and enjoyed the sun before laying a track out.

By the time we began descending back to the car, the sun had taken it's toll on the new snow and we carefully picked our way down the steeper parts, using ski cuts to trigger small sloughs of the mushy top snow and clear the way.
